Bhongiri fort is one of the oldest forts located in Bhongir, Telangana, India. The specialty of this fort is, it was constructed on monolithic rock and was in the shape of an egg. It is approximately 50 km away from Hyderabad. It a good place to go on a weekend. All it takes is a single day to visit this place and come back.

2.Kuntala water falls
Kuntala waterfalls is the highest water falls in the state of Telangana with an approximate height of 150 feet. It is 260 km away from Hyderabad. Kuntala Waterfalls is situated in the middle of the Sahyadri mountain range near Neredikonda village in Adilabad District.
Kuntala Waterfalls appear as a pleasant surprise, accessible through the twirling roads passing through dense forests. It is a beautiful place, it can be visited with family and friends as well.
Rachakonda fort is almost 62 km away from hyderabad.The Rachakonda Fort was constructed in 14th century by Recherla Singama Nayak from Padma Nayaka dynasty who ruled the region of Rachakonda. This fort has a medieval architecture. The interesting thing about this fort is that it was built as a two story structure and it was constructed without using any mortar. There are many hills near to this fort which are good for trekking. Recently some people found a 6 feet shiva Linga when they were digging near the fort. This place is best to visit on a weekend. All it takes is one day. This place is interests people who like architecture and fascinated about history.
Anantagiri Hills is located approximately 80 km from Hyderabad. This place is known for its dense forest and nature splendid atmosphere. Anantagiri hills is the birth place for Musi river that flows through Hyderabad and one of the major water sources for Hyderabad. Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, the temple of Lord Vishnu is one of tourist attraction of this area. This place is good for trekking, there are two trekking places one which is near the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple and the other is half a kilometer away from temple towards kerelli. There are resorts for available for people to stay, usually people stay for two days. So this is best destination for a weekend trip.
5.Sri Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple
Sri Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani is located near Nagasanpally in Medak district of Telangana. This temple was built in 12th century and is one of the powerful and famous temple in the proximity of Hyderabad. The river Manjeer flows as seven streams, confluence at this place. This temple may be inaccessible in monsoon season due to heavy water flow around the temple. The rest of the time this temple is accessible. Direct route buses are available from Medak to this place for those who opt for public transport.
6. Koulas fort
Koulas fort is 170 km away from Hyderabad. Koulas fort is one of the oldest fort built in 14th century by Kaktiya rulers. This is a massive fort spread across 6 sq kilometers. It is located in Jukkal mandal close to bidar. The fort construction followed semi dravidain style at an altitude about 1100 ft.The fort is spread across 400 acres surrounded by large fortification wall with strong bastions. The fort houses several wonderfully built gateways, buildings, temples, mosques and other structures. There are about 20 large cannons spread across the fort. It has 52 small and big bastions along several water tanks. The visitors need to trek for about 3 km to reach the fort. It is advisable to take the help of villagers to reach the fort.One more tourist attraction of this place is the koulas dam which is 18 km away from the fort and attracts a large number of birds in winter.
7. Kondapalli fort/ Kondapalli kota
Kondapalli fort know as Kondapalli kota is 262 km from Hyderabad. It is located in kondapalli village, Krishna District near Vijayawada.This fort is believed to have been built by the Reddy King of Kondaveedu, Prolaya Vema Reddy in 14th century for recreational purposes. This fort is spread over 18 Sq Km. Apart from this fort this place is known for wooden toys called as ‘Kondapalli bomma.’ These toys are made up with soft wood called as poniki and are world famous. Kondapalli village is the major tourist attractions near to Vijayawada.
Sahastrakund Waterfall is 290 km form Hyderabad is located in Murali village, Nanded district of Maharashtra. It is one of the beautiful waterfall on the Penganga River. The water drops from a height of 50 feet to form the breathtaking waterfalls.There are two temples near the falls on both sides of the river. A long ramp was constructed to have good views of the waterfalls. There is a watch tower nearby that gives breathtaking views of the waterfall. Public transport is very limited to this place. It is advisable to drive a car however to reach the waterfalls one should walk for 20 min, as the four wheeler can’t reach the waterfalls.
9.Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary
Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is 297 km from Hyderabad. Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the right bank of Godavari River and also it is part of Dandakaranya Forest. The sanctuary is named after the River Kinnerasani. This river divides the sanctuary and meets Godavari.
The wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 635.4 sq km with the picturesque Kinnerasani Lake and densely forested islands in the middle of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is the home for many animals like Cheetal, Chinkara, Chousinghas, Sambar, Wild Boars, Gaurs, Hyena, Jackals, Panthers, Sloth Bear, Tigers and Black Bucks. The varieties of birds like Peafowl, Jungle Fowl, Quails, Partridges, Teals, Nuktas, Spoonbills and Doves are the common birds in the sanctuary. Another attraction of Kinnerasani is the glass house built by Singareni colories. The glass house was blasted by Naxals earlier and the efforts are on to renovate & reopen it. Eco Park which is located near the dam can be enjoyed by visitors. The scenic surroundings of the Kinnerasani reservoir bounded by lush green vegetation offer an enchanting view to the visitors. It is a perfect place for nature lovers and one should defnitley carry a DSLR camera to freeze the natural beauty of this place.
10.Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary
Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary is 255 km from Hyderabad,It is one of the best sanctuaries in the state. It is primarily known as a habitat of the Great Indian Bustard, a rare species of bird. The sanctuary also attracts large number of migratory birds and it is often called as Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary. It is located in a proximity of 4.5 km from Rollapadu village.
It is covered across 6.14 sq. km and it was established in 1988 to protect the Great Indian Bustard. It is the only habitat for the Bustard in Andhra Pradesh which is a critically endangered species. The uniqueness of this place is dry grassland area. 3 km from the Rollapadu village there is a large lake called Alaganuru Reservoir. Alaganuru Reservoir is the base site for the migratory birds and it’s a must visit place.
Rollapadu sanctuary is home to variety of species with large number of deer’s and black bucks. Other wildlife includes Foxes, jackals, bonnet macaques, jungle cats and sloth bears have been reported at the sanctuary. It also houses 132 bird species with the Alaganuru reservoir near the sanctuary being a haunt for migratory species. Some of the bird species spotted at Rollapadu besides the bustard and the florican include Indian rollers, mynas, eagles and migratory species such as barheaded geese, Demoiselle Cranes and Greater Flamingos.
Established as an ideal site for the protection of the bustard in the 1980s, the sanctuary has suffered severe setbacks with the bustard population falling in recent years. The sanctuary currently houses nearly 800 blackbucks.
Monsoon and post-monsoon is the best season to visit this place when the migratory birds inhabit the place. It usually takes about two hours two visit the main sanctuary and bird sanctuary.There is a small bird museum, a watch tower and guest house near the sanctuary.
The public transport to this place is limited. Few buses are available from Kurnool and Nandikotkur.
